Our Vision

To see Catalina healed, whole, and united with her Creator to be the unique blessing to the nations she has been designed to be. We want to partner with the local community in education, mercy, and reconciliation to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to the islander, visitor, and the nations.

Story of YWAM Avalon

In the spring of 2025, Enrique Dominguez, pastor of Singing Waters Christian Center, invited Tyler and Anna Sabicer to pray and consider launching a YWAM Base in Avalon, California, on Catalina Island.  After serious consideration, the Sabicers responded that they did not feel that God had given them a vision or a team, and that these were clear needs to launch such a ministry. Over the next six months, the Lord took the Sabicers on a journey where vision was released, team was realized, and their hearts were softened to the idea of ministry on Catalina.

The Sabicers are very aware and excited that God has been, and is continuing to, move in Avalon. Their hearts’ desire is to gently step into the community, with vision, thoughtfulness, much prayer, and the Holy Spirit’s leading in how He is inviting YWAM Avalon to join in what He is already doing. They are humbled that the Driver family would courageously and faithfully say “yes” to loving the Avalon community as well.

To know God and to make Him known.

This is why Youth With A Mission exists.

This is why we feel called to bring YWAM to Catalina Island.

The Sabicers then sought prayer and input from their leadership down in Mexico and received their commendation to launch a base on Catalina.  They then went to YWAM North Cascades to participate in the Advance Leadership School and to be mentored by the base director there.  While attending this school, they have continued to plan, pray, and connect in preparation for the launch of YWAM Avalon in 2027.

Meet The Team

Sabicer Family

Tyler & Anna have been involved in missions for a number of years; the past four years of which were at a family YWAM base in Baja Mexico, where they met the Driver family in 2024. Tyler is from Catalina Island & has a deep love for the community. Anna also has a passion to equip islanders to take the Gospel into the nations. In the Fall of 2025 they felt a clear calling by God for their family to take a big step of faith into beginning a new YWAM base in Avalon & are very excited to see how He shows up.

Driver Family

Janelle & Jason, along with their children, Owen and Charli, are deeply relational & passionate about seeing hurt become wholeness through encounters with Jesus. Their family mission is to build relationships, strengthen families and deliver the HOPE of intimately knowing God the Father and our identity in him. They have a heart to see Catalina Island transformed by the healing work of Jesus & will be an integral part of establishing YWAM Avalon.
